Our body always resides in the present. There is no way for our body to go into the future or the past. But our mind is not always in the present. More often than not, our mind is wandering all over, from past to present to future, non-stop. For most of our lives, our mind and body are disconnected.
In mindfulness practice, we learn to be more aware when we become disconnected. When we notice our mind wandering off from the present, wandering off from the breath, we gently bring it back to the breath, to the breath we’re taking right this moment. When we bring our mind back to the present, we can inhabit our body, which always resides in the present. When mind and body are both in the present, the mind and body are connected. Mind and body are aligned.
When we can inhabit our body, we can inhabit this moment. When we can inhabit this moment, we can inhabit our life.
