About

Hang Ruan, LICSW

Hello! Welcome to my blog. I am passionate about mindfulness and Zen meditation because it changed my life. I was lucky enough to have stumbled upon it in my youth, and had the good fortune of training with clear, compassionate teachers. It is my passion and direction to share this practice with others. This not-for-profit blog is one of the ways I hope to achieve that goal.

I am a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist specializing in mindfulness therapy, and developed the Mindfulness Training Program which provides individual and group mindfulness therapy to clients throughout the Northwest region of United States. I have lectured nationally and internationally on mindfulness, and provide mindfulness training to clinicians. I started formal Zen training in 2001, and currently serve as senior dharma teacher in the international Kwan Um School of Zen.

Trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, and Mindfulness Based Relapse Prevention, I utilize an integrative approach that supports the application of mindfulness in various contexts. I have taught meditation in a variety of settings, including maximum security prisons, inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, community mental health centers, universities, schools, leadership workshops, seminaries, and Zen centers.
